The fascinating Kosciuszko Mountain provides one of the most exciting tracks in the states. A favourite among bikers and hikers, this track is well marked and rated Grade 3 difficulty. It starts within the Kosciuszko National Park at Charlotte Pass. It’s challenging for novices, especially the last 1.4km to the top, but the views are well worth it. In spring, you’ll enjoy the lush greenery and wildflower carpets, while in winter, you’ll spot some glaciers. Spring and summer are probably the best time to do this walk as it’s not recommended after a snowfall.

2. Eastern Beaches Coastal Walk

Also known as the Bondi to Coogee Walk, this track is easy and suits all fitness levels. You’ll move through several bays, all hiding pristine beaches and some of the most captivating landscapes in the capital’s area. If you’re not up for the full 6km, do the short version from Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach. This track doesn’t require any special equipment since you’ll be walking mainly on boardwalk, and it’s well marked.

Tip: go for a sunrise walk; this track is very popular among locals and tourists; therefore, it tends to get crowded.

3. Spit to Manly Walk

We are moving on to a moderate difficulty track. The Spit to Manly Walk starts at the northern side of the Spit Bridge and continues on to mixed terrain. You’ll be switching between the boardwalk and the unfinished paths, so wear suitable shoes. However, the track is well marked so that you won’t have troubles with orientation. Along the way, you get to enjoy a view of the Northern Beaches and Middle Harbour. Beware that there are no kiosks or rest stops, and the walk is long, so pack some snacks and water.

4. Tomaree Head Summit Walk

Don’t be fooled by the short distance – the Tomaree Summit Walk is rated as a Grade 5 track! This is mainly because of the steep incline towards the summit. It begins at the end of the Shoal Ba Road in Tomaree National Park. From there, you’ll need to walk 1.1km to the best view over the North Coast. Pack a lunch and enjoy a picnic at the top after snapping some fascinating photos of the horizon.
Bonus: If the time’s right, you might even spot dolphins jumping in the ocean.

5. Breadknife and Grand High Tops Walk

Breadknife and Grand High Tops walk is probably the best way to explore the beauty and wilderness of the Warrumbungle National Park. This exciting 14.5km track starts at Spirey Creek and moves through mountainous terrain to the Grand High Tops summit. The constantly changing scenery provides you with views of wildflowers, iconic rock formations, such as the Breadknife, and dense forest. The loop is a real treat for avid hikers and doable in a day. However, it requires a solid fitness level and suitable equipment. There are no refreshment stops, so pack some food and water.

6. Hare Point Walking Track

Hare Point walk starts at Red Point picnic area and traverses through dues, forest and beaches. This walk captivates some of the mesmerizing beauty of Jervis Bay, but it’s not an easy one! Due to the mixed surface and mainly walking on sand, you must have a good fitness level. Make a slight detour and a much-deserved break and dive in the ocean. Lay for a while on the whitest sand in the world before continuing your walk. While walking in the forest, you’ll enjoy the shades of the tall eucalyptus trees as well as tea trees and other unique Australian plant life.

7. Six Foot Track

Pack your hiking backpack and set off on a multi-day adventure. Six Foot is a widely popular trail that moves through the Blue Mountains National Park to the Jenolan Caves. The track starts at Explorers Tree, on Pulpit Hill Road in the National Park and takes you inside the dense rainforest. While moving through the challenging terrain, you’ll witness some fantastic waterfalls and heritage sites. It takes about three days to finish this hike, so make sure to pack enough food, water, a tent and a sleeping bag. There’s rarely any crowds as only the experienced tackle this hike.

8. Light to Light Walk

The Light to Light walk is the hidden gem of the Sapphire Coast that got severely damaged by the bushfires. It’s still in the rebuilding stage, and it’s opening in sections. It starts at Boyds Tower and continues for over 30km to Green Cape Lighthouse. You’ll need approximately three days to finish this hike. There are several campsites along the walk, so you won’t have trouble setting up for the night. The path moves along the coastline, so you’ll get to appreciate some marvellous views. It’s not a famous tack, so you’ll have as much privacy as you want.

9. The Bathers Way Walk

Experience the beauty of the Newcastle coastline with this leisurely stroll. Starting at Merewether Baths, the track takes you to Dixon Park, the impressive ANZAC Memorial Walk and ends at Nobbys Lighthouse. It’s a great way to spot the best of Newcastle while staying close to the ocean. You’ll be walking on a flat, paved path, so no need for special shoes. There’s plenty of refreshment stops, as well as tracks to the beach for a quick dip. If you’re visiting during winter, keep your eyes open for some humpback whales on the horizon!

10. The Coast Track

The Coast Track is a combination of the best of both worlds – the mesmerizing ocean views and mystic bushland. This Grade 5 track starts at Bundeena, traverses through the Royal National Park and ends at Otford. While you might manage to do it in a day, it’s best to split it, staying the night at North Era Beach. Along the way, you can take a swim in the ocean, snap some photos of the iconic rock formations as the Wedding Cake Rock or admire the view.

11. Cape Byron Walking Track

Get some unforgettable views of Byron Bay by doing the moderate Cape Byron Bay walk. It starts at Clarkes Beach and finishes at the Cape Byron lighthouse dating all the way back to 1901. It’s not a challenging walk, but there are some steep sections that some might find problematic. You’ll enjoy some fantastic coastal views, especially if doing the walk during sunrise or sunset.

Moving all the way to the west, indulge in the unique and moderately challenging Homestead Gorge Track in the Mutawintji National Park. Far from the coastline and deep into the remoteness, this track provides you with the sighting of Aboriginal art and wildlife encounters – think emus, wallabies, goannas and rich birdlife. The trail moves along Homestead creek and through rugged terrain, including rocky cliffs, so wear suitable shoes.

13. New England Wilderness Walk

Engage on a three-day long journey from the New England Tableland to the Darkwood Road. Traversing through Snowy Ridge, several creek beds, and river crossings, this bushwalk is suitable only for highly experienced hikers. There are many flat areas where you’ll be able to set up your tent and light a fire on chilly nights. You can expect rainfall, so wear a waterproof parka, shoes, extra socks and enough food.

2. Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island is a genuine underwater haven. It’s home to the only fringing coral reef lagoon in NSW and a UNESCO World Heritage marine park. It’s an excellent place for beginners with shallow dives starting at 5 to 8 metres.

What can you see: Over 450 species of fish and 90 species of corals.
Visibility level: 30 metres.

3. Fly Point, Port Stephens, Nelson Bay

Fly Point is one of the best shore dive sites with rich marine life. It’s suitable for divers of all levels and provides effortless access. There are even some little bits of blue coral!

What can you see: 400 species of fish, 200 species of sea slugs and Nudibranchs, octopus, urchins, sea stars, sea cucumbers, crabs, crayfish, shrimp, squid.
Visibility level:7-15metres at its best, in high tide, and less than 1 metre at its worst.
Access: You can reach Nelson Bay by plane, bus, or car. Once you arrive, travel to Neil Caroll Park and walk down the staircase opposite the amphitheatre.

4. Montague Island, Narooma

What about snorkelling with seals? Montague Island is home to the largest seal colony in NSW, and you can meet inland and in the vivid turquoise water.

What can you see: Fur seals, 15 species of penguins, dolphins, 90 species of sea birds,
Visibility level: 10-30 metres.

5. Mystery Bay, Narooma

The rocky Mystery Bay beach is divided into two sections – the south and north section. The south part is larger, protected from large waves, and great for amateurs, while the north is an open area for skilled divers.

What can you see: Big fish, dolphins, seals, sharks and rays. 
Visibility level: 10-30 metres.

6. Maloneys Beach, Batemans Bay

Swim your way into the unspoiled waters near the rocky formations in Maloneys Beach while admiring the magnificent marine life. It’s the first stop on Batemans Bay snorkelling trail – an underwater adventure to remember!

What can you see: Diverse array of fish, invertebrates and algae, rocky reefs, kelp beds, seagrasses, and sponge gardens.
Visibility level: 10 metres.

7. Sunshine Cove Beach, Batemans Bay

The perfect location for family snorkelling in calm waters. The sea bottom is a mixture of rocky reefs, sand, and seaweed beds. It’s protected from southerly swells and enclosed by two ridges.

What can you see: Endemic fish such as red morwong, luderick, bream, and groper, as well as lobsters and abalone.
Visibility level: 10 metres.

8. Guerilla Bay, Batemans Bay

The waters of Guerilla Bay are fit for different levels of snorkellers. A striking little rocky island divides the waters into safer flat reef to the south part and more adventurous waters to the north.

What can you see: Large variety of fish species as blue groper, wrasse, luderick, and more.
Visibility level: 10-15 metres.
Access: From Guerilla Bay, get on George Bass Drive and onto Burri Point Road. Once you arrive at Beach Parade, turn right to the beach carpark.

9. Shoal Bay, Port Stephens

Shoal Bay keeps the best of Port Stephens when it comes to underwater adventures. It’s a great shore dive year-round. The rock shelves at the sea bottom are beaming with marine life waiting to be explored!

What can you see: Coral, fish, octopus, jellyfish, sponges, sea turtles.
Visibility level: Up to 18 metres at high tide.

10. Merimbula Wharf, Merimbula

The Merimbula Wharf is the type of snorkelling site where unexpected species can appear. The rocky reef is covered in kelp and sponge gardens, with numerous caves serving as homes to the vast fish species.

What can you see: Despite diverse fish species, you can see Kapala stingarees, stargazers, flatheads, sand stars, coffin rays, gurnard perch, Australian angel sharks, seahorses, draughtboard sharks, grey-spotted catsharks, sea turtles, cow tail stingray.
Visibility level: 8-15 metres.

11. Solitary Islands Marine Park, Coffs Harbour

The Solitary Islands Marine Park is a group of five off-shore islands, with unique underwater terrain. The caves, walls, and canyons are covered in marine life.

What can you see: 550 reef fish species, 90 hard coral species, and 600 mollusca (shellfish) species.
Visibility level: 15-30 metres.
Access: 20-60 minutes boat ride from Coffs Harbour.

12. Trial Bay Gaol Beach, South West Rocks

Trial Bay Gaol Beach is a sheltered beach in South West Rocks, immune to most swell directions. It provides a break wall that protects you while snorkelling over the rocks underwater. An impressive dive for beginners and experts!

What can you see: Wobbegong sharks, turtles, grouper, wrasse, morays, cuttlefish, humpback and southern right whales, pilot whales, dolphins, grey reef sharks.
Visibility level: 5-40 metres.

13. Hat Head Creek, South West Rocks

Hat Head Creek is a wonderful snorkelling spot at high tide, with an abundance of marine life. It’s a natural habitat for protected fish species. It’s only 2 metres deep, so perfect for beginners.

What can you see: Fish, wobbegong sharks, hermit crabs, flathead, mullet, octopus.
Visibility level: 2 metres.

14. Toowoon Bay, Central Coast

The prime family snorkelling site, Toowoon Bay, hides a wildly rich marine life in its pristine waters. It’s a picturesque snorkelling adventure you can’t miss!

What can you see: various fish species, diverse marine animals, thick seaweed, coral reefs, dolphins.
Visibility level: 8-10 metres.

16. Murrays Beach, Booderee National Park, Jervis Bay

You’ll recognise Murrays Beach by the towering sandstone cliffs right off the shore. It provides shallow and deep snorkelling along rock reefs, sand zones, sea grass meadows, sand-flats, and caves. One of the top snorkelling spots in Jervis Bay.

What can you see: Over 100 fish species, blue groper, sea turtles, squid, sea-dragon, eastern blue devilfish, bottlenose dolphin, and little penguin.
Visibility level: 15-20 metres.

17. Greenfield & Blenheim Beaches, Vincentia, Jervis Bay

These two beaches are hidden away from the crowds and connected by a sand walk. Greenfield Beach has minimal waves, so it’s great for beginners, while Blenheim Beach is most popular among locals for offering the best snorkelling in the bay. During winter, it’s the spot to go to watch the humpback whale migration.

What can you see: Over 100 fish species, like eastern blue devilfish, weedy sea-dragon, sharks, rays, marine mammals like bottlenose dolphins and little penguins, shellfish, and marine plants.
Visibility level: 10 metres.

18. Cabbage Tree Bay (Shelly Beach) Manly, Sydney

Shelly Beach is a fully protected aquatic reserve on Manly’s southern end and Sydney’s most popular snorkelling spot. It’s sheltered from the ocean swell with clear, calm waters most days. It’s amateur snorkellers’ paradise!

What can you see: Large schools of mullet and trevally, goatfish, old wives, flounder, flathead fish, dusky whaler sharks, wobbegongs, hawksbill turtles.
Visibility level: 8-10 metres.

19.Little Manly Cove, Manly, Sydney

If the sea is too rough on Shelly Beach, Little Manly Cove is a good option. It provides a leisurely float while you admire the underwater world.

What can you see: 500 species of sea life, including sea dragons, cuttlefish, seahorses, octopus, blue swimmer crabs, pygmy leatherjackets, Port Jackson sharks, starfish, blue groper etc.
Visibility level: 5-10 metres.

20. Bare Island, La Perouse, Sydney

Bare Island is a heritage-listed islet settled in south-eastern Sydney famous for being the shooting location of Mission Impossible 2. The tucked-away coves provide a calm snorkelling experience, suitable for both amateurs and professionals.

What can you see: 100 fish species, 1,000 invertebrate animals, including grey nurse shark, wobbegong, wrasse, giant cuttlefish, sea slugs, octopus, pineapple fish, turtles, and sponge gardens.
Visibility level: 10-30 metres.

21. Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, Sydney

If you like secluded spots, The Basin Campground, on the east shore of Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park, is your snorkelling haven. A shark net protects the bay, so you can dive in peace.

What can you see: Seahorses, cuttlefish, rays, cuttlefish, stingarees, sea stars, seagrass beds, mudflats, leather jackets, and tropical fish in the warmer months!
Visibility level: N/A

22. Kurnell, Kamay Botany Bay National Park, Sydney

Kurnell is a hidden gem when it comes to snorkelling near Sydney. Located on the southern part of Botany Bay – Captain Cook’s first stomping ground has more than rich underwater life. It’s the home of the largest weedy sea dragon population in Australia.

What can you see: Weedy sea dragons, cuttlefish, moray eels, Port Jackson sharks, and even Antarctic fur seals.
Visibility level: 1- 20 metres depending on the conditions.

The obvious choice for many who visit the Snowy Mountains is to explore the famous ski fields. You can choose to do this based out of a ski resort or to make day trips from any of the surrounding campsites and caravan parks. The three ski resorts – Thredbo, Perisher, and Charlotte Pass – each have their own attractions.

Thredbo is a thriving little village as well as a ski resort and is abuzz with cafes and attractions year-round.

Perisher has 47 lifts, a wide range of ski runs and terrain parks, as well as a network of extensive cross-country skiing trails and a snow-tubing park. During June, a 4-day music festival livens up the slopes.

Charlotte Pass is a great place to ski with the kids, a full range of beginners to advance runs provide an option for skiers of all ages and skill levels – even night skiing for those who are game!

2. Hike The Snowies

There are many options for multiday hikes, as well as shorter options from most campsites and holiday parks throughout the region. There are a vast array of difficulty levels and lengths to appeal to any hiker, and trails to enjoy even if you don’t normally hike. Home to Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko, the Kosciuszko National Park is a great place to start, and it is good for exploring from December to March.

3. Visit The Wineries and Breweries

Boasting an impressive number of incredible wineries, the Snowy Mountains produce some excellent cold climate wines. Several of the Tumbarumba wine region wineries offer cellar door wine tastings and a few offer a menu to go along with it. Bushfires decimated much of this area in early 2020 so check with the wineries before you go exploring, and go and support as many as you can. Obsession Wines is one such place; a spectacular spot at 850m elevation.

4. 4WD Adventure

The Snowies are famous for the fantastic off-roading opportunities throughout the region. Whether you want to plan your own trip and enjoy a series of day trips from individual campsites or plan a more extensive and intense trip, the Snowy Mountains have something for you. To get you started, check out the Broken Cart Trail, Paddy’s River Dam or Port Philip Trail.

5. Take A Scenic Drive

The Snowy Mountains have a view around every corner, and the drives between each major town are both beautiful and not too taxing. Plan out a route and enjoy a day exploring some of the smaller places, perhaps stopping at cellar doors or roadside stalls.

6. Go On A Horse Riding Adventure

There are many chances for those wild at heart – whether they’re 5 or 50 – to live out those Man from Snowy River dreams. Get in touch with one of the many horse-riding tours and see if they have options appropriate for your kids ages and take a day (or a multi-day trek if you’re adventurous and experienced) on horseback to experience the Snowy Mountains as people have for generations.

7. Take A two-wheeled horse…

If the idea of riding horses doesn’t appeal, a similar experience can be had on mountain bike. Summer is a fantastic time to explore the Snowy Mountain scenery, the wildflowers and native fauna make every expedition into the bush a treat. Try Thredbo’s Mountain Bike Parks (which open in November) and the purpose-built trails at Lake Crackenback Resort.

Or, if peddling up and down mountains isn’t your idea of fun, shorter (and flatter) rides around Lake Jindabyne can be an awesome and active day out.

Who would have thought being in a desert area that there would be any spots to take a swim in hot artesian water? While in Lightning Ridge, enjoy the Lightning Ridge hot bore baths at night while stargazing. In Walgett, Burren Junction bore baths are also open 24 hours and camping is available here. The baths are closed during the summer months. The Goodooga Artesian Spring is also worth a visit and camping is available.

2. Check Out Silverton

Located 26km north-west of Broken Hill in the rolling hills of the Barrier Range, it was once a silver mining town. The amazing outback landscape has been seen in many movies such as Mad Max 2, A Town Like Alice and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Grab the ‘Welcome to Historic Silverton’ brochure which lists 21 things to see around the town. A visit to Silverton would not be complete without a stop at the Mad Max Museum and the Silverton Hotel.

3. Drive Darling River Run

A 950km driving experience along the Darling River between Walgett and Wentowrth. You will see Aboriginal rock art, ancient man-made fish traps and plenty of paddle steamer history. Along with plenty of places to free camp, there are also many opportunities to throw in a line and catch some fish for dinner.

4. Drink At An Unique Outback Pub

Every town has at least one pub. The outback has plenty that are a little bit quirky. The wall of the main bar at the Tibooburra Two Story Hotel has akubras that belong to people that call the town home. The Family Hotel in Tibooburra has an entire wall painted by Clifton Pugh, an archibald prize winning artist. The Silverton Hotel has appeared in numerous commercials and films. Its walls are covered in memorabilia and the car from Mad Max 2 sits out the front. 

5. Visit Corner Country

Canberra is blessed with some amazing galleries that are lucky host to some historic and significant exhibits, from Monet to Cartier. The National Museum of Australia holds these exhibitions throughout the year, and they are very popular, so be sure to get there early. Across the road is the National Portrait Gallery, where you are sure to see some familiar faces displayed in stunning photographs, paintings and more.

6. Explore The Mines

The ACT isn’t all about cityscapes and museums. There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors too. Why not head to Mount Ainslie? You can drive to the top or park the car at the War memorial and enjoy the hike to the top for the rewarding views. Or visit Corin Forest. In the summer, you can visit the beautiful Gibraltor Falls and take the Alpine Slide 1.2km through the ash forest. In winter, Corin Forest provides an affordable snow experience for families to enjoy snow play and tobogganing down their safe man made runs.

7. Discover Pastoral Heritage

Outback NSW is rich with mining and pastoral heritage and there are a number of things to do which prove it. From all of the heritage walks (see walks section) to the historic sites and museums, there is a lot to learn here. Try The Bottle House and Mining Museum, Lightning Ridge Heritage Cottage or Chambers of the Black Hand.

The Hunter is also a world-class foodie location. Enjoy cheese at Hunter Valley Smelly Cheese Shop or the Hunter Valley Cheese Company, sample chocolates at Donarch Fine Chocolate, drink great coffee at Bella & Co. Coffee Cart and share a charcuterie platter at Lovedale Smokehouse Cafe and Gourmet Pantry. The Hunter Valley Olive Co. has a range of delicious olive-based delicacies and beauty products too.

You can also visit the historic Arnott Bakehouse, where the famous biscuit brand started its journey.

3. Explore Gardens

With over 14 hectares of beautifully manicured gardens, The Hunter Valley Gardens are some of the most incredible around. Spend an afternoon exploring 10 internationally themed gardens, including the popular Storybook Garden.

4. Soar High

One of the best ways to see the Hunter is from above. Take an early morning hot air balloon flight over the vines or head to Aerohunter for a thrilling flight in one of Australia’s most rare warplanes. Or, embrace the air from the ground at Luskintyre Airfield and Aviation Museum.

5. Embrace Culture and Heritage

This area is a melting pot of history, heritage and culture. Try Mountain Maid Gold Mine, Maitland Regional Art Gallery, Richmond Vale Railway Museum or Saint James Anglican Church (one of the oldest churches in Australia). Plus, there are number of self-guided heritage walks.

6. 4WD The Valley

There are a number of 4WD tracks in The Hunter. Take the Barrington Trail for some great 4WDing, fishing and awesome camping or the Big Yango Loop Trail if you’re feeling adventurous.

7. Play Golf

Golf is hugely popular in The Hunter with a huge number of golf courses in the area. Singleton Golf Club, Oaks Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club and The Vintage Golf Club are amongst the most popular. If you’re looking for something less formal, try Hunter Valley Aqua Golf and Putt Putt.

Country NSW is home to some of the wackiest towns in Australia but they are a source of endless laughs and eyebrow-raising experiences. No matter how small the town you come across, spend some time exploring its various quirks, talking to locals and having some light-hearted fun.

2. Check Out The National Parks

Country NSW is an outdoor lover’s dream. With over 70 National Parks in this area, you’ll never be far from adventure. Australia’s second-highest waterfall (Wollomombi Falls) can be found in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. You can scale the Woolpack Rocks and Cathedral Rock in Cathedral Rock National Park.
If you want to make a splash, this area offers more ways that you can think of to do just that!

Nangar National Park is really popular as it’s known for its epic picnic spots, famed dripping rock and one of the best lookouts you will find in country NSW.

3. Explore Caves & Fossils

Take a step back into the Devonian period and visit Canowindra’s Age Of Fishes Museum. Here you will find yourself immersed back in time, seeing what freshwater fish were like millions of years ago.

Arch and Verandah Caves lie in the Borenore Karst Conservation Reserve. Take the short walk from the picnic area to Arch Cave and explore what it has to offer. Verandah Cave is an hour’s walk from the picnic area. Once here, you will find a large limestone overhand protecting pools of water underneath. If you are quiet enough you may even be able to spot a platypus.

4. Have An Animal Encounter

Animals, animals everywhere! Wake up in the wild with an overnight stay at the Zoofari Lodge at Dubbo Western Plains Zoo. Get up close and personal with the alpacas one of the many alpaca farms. Have a true farm experience at Kuriong Sheep Station or Bathurst Farm Experience.

In a small country town called Darlington Point, you will find Altina Wildlife Park. Take the 2.5hr guided tour and get up close and personal during feeding times. Altina also offers behind the scenes feeding encounters. Be sure to pre book as spots fill up fast.

5. Make A Splash

Country NSW has a large number of lakes which the locals take to during summer to cool off. Gumbend Lake, Lake Forbes, Lake Hume, Lake Talbot and Lake Mulwala are all popular options for swimming, watersports and swimming. At Lake Forbes make sure you grab some waffles from Sweet Three Vintage Van.

Wyangala Dam is a good spot too. It is known for its monster cod fish and the best recreational dam in the region. You can also take a dip at the swimming holes in the region’s National Parks. Boonoo Boonoo National Park has secluded water holes and features the waterfall in front of which Banjo Patterson proposed to Alice Walker.

6. Enjoy The Wineries

You may not have realised but Country NSW is home to 9 different wine regions! In the Southern Highlands, check out the Book Barn of the historic Bendooley Estate (oh, and stop in at Robertsons Pies while you’re in the area). In the Orange area, head to De Salis or Nashdale Lane for epic cellar door views. Sample cherry wines and liquors in the Hilltops region.

This area is a thrill-seeker’s playground! Head out to Treetops Adventure Park and challenge yourself on the high ropes course, jump around in NetWorld and pick up some serious speed on the Zipline. Get lost in Amazement Fun Park and say hello to the farm animals while you are there. Test your skills at Water Jetpack at Mt Penang Gardens.

2. Make a splash

Learn to surf at any one of the Coast’s amazing beaches. Bring your boat and spend some time exploring the beautiful Brisbane Waters. Hire paddle boards, SUPs and paddle boats at Avoca Lake. Book in for a fishing charter and catch yourself dinner. Dive the Ex-HMAS Adelaide. Take a trip to Somersby Falls and cool off in the always flowing waters. During summer, AquaSplash can be found in Gosford, an inflatable water obstacle course.

3. Explore National Parks

The Central Coast may be well known for its beaches but we can not forget about the incredible National Parks on offer. Bouddi, Brisbane Water, Wyyrabalong and Munmorah State Conservation Area all meet the sea, offering fantastic walks, hidden gems and regular ocean glimpses. Stop to admire the wildlife and ever changing plantlife too.
Marramarra National Park, Popran, Strickland State Forest, Jilliby State Conservation Area and The Watagans are all inland. They offer fantastic walking tracks along with great 4WDing, mountain and motorbike tracks.
There are waterfalls, suspension bridges and amazing lookouts to find, scattered through the Coast’s National Parks.

4. Wildlife Encounters

The Central Coast is home to the world famous Reptile Park. Don’t miss the live shows or your chance to hold a koala, and be sure to say hello to Elvis, the lawn-mower wrangling crocodile. For a more intimate experience, head a little further down the freeway to Walkabout Wildlife Park. Spend the day amongst the trees and get up close and personal with the roaming kangaroos, keep an ear out for the dingoes howling and all the beautiful birdlife.

5. Have a Picnic

Pack a picnic and head to one of the region’s many awesome picnic spots. It’s one of the best ways to enjoy the region. Norah Head Lighthouse, Crackneck Point, Tea Tree Lookout, The Pines Picnic Area, Terrigal Haven, Little Beach (Bouddi National Park), Picnic Point and Patonga Foreshore Reserve are all perfect picnic spots with great views and the chance to spot wildlife.

6. Head to the beach

With 41 beaches in the area, it’s easy to see why this is one of our tips! Avoca Beach, MacMasters Beach and Umina Beach are all perfect family-friendly options. On the northern end, Norah Head offers a protected rockpool and beautifully clear water; there is a slight downhill walk but there is a café to quench any thirst you build up. Secluded, but worth the effort, is Maitland Bay, tucked away in the Bouddi National Park, you’ll more often than not be the only person at this tranquil beach. There are no lifeguards on duty so take extreme care.
